US Black Golfers Association to host golf Classic for Injured NFL® Player

During the week of Super Bowl XLIII™, on January 28, 2009 the US Black Golfers Association (USBGA) will be hosting the first ever annual golf classic in Tampa, Florida to help a NFL player. The event will commemorate Richard Collier, an offensive tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars who has become a paraplegic following an attack made on him in the month of September 2008.

Since the career-ending tragedy ended his active life, he is no longer able to participate in any competition. Realizing Mr. Collier’s condition and to offer him some help, three NFL alumni, Mr. Andre Anderson, Mr. Doug Williams and Mr. Isiah Robertson approached the CEO of USBGA to request for a tournament to be conducted honoring Mr.Collier and other such players.

Their request was granted and the association is all ready to put up this selfless event, proceedings of which will go to the Richard collier Foundation. Now onwards the event will be held each year. Featuring a course point competition and check presentation to Richard Collier, the event will be held at Pebble Creek Golf Course in north Tampa this year. Awards for the top team, individual player and the best dressed (USBGA Swagger Award) will also be given on this occasion.
